Contact: Maria Alexandrova maria@russianfilmweek.org The Russian Film Week organisers formally announced the launch of the event, which will take place 30th November – 4th December 2016 at the Regent Street Cinema, London. This is a private non-profit initiative of a group of volunteers carried out in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation, the British Council and the Raindance Film Festival, in partnership with the Synergy University (one of the biggest in Russia) and sponsored by the Blavatnik Family Foundation. It is a major cross-cultural event held in the year 2016 – declared The Year of Russian Language and Literature by the Russian and British governments and also the Year of Cinema in Russia. According to Filip Perkon, RFW Executive Producer, in the recent very complicated political climate it is extremely important to build bridges, to reach out to ordinary people – through the means of culture and charitable deeds. The Russian Film Week presents the very best of what Russian film industry of the past 18 months has to offer and raises awareness of the Gift of Life charity, sister charity to Podari Zhizn founded by two great Russian actresses Chulpan Khamatova and Dina Korzun to help children in Russia to fight cancer. RFW presented it’s official trailer and announced the film programme, which includes 10 feature films, 4 documentaries, 6 shorts and 2 animation films, as well as a variety of auxiliary events at Pushkin House, Rossotrudnichestvo and other venues. A specially formed jury will decide on the GOLDEN UNICORN AWARDS in each category of films, including foreign films about Russia or filmed there (Note: not all films submitted for the awards will be screened). Some of the RFW features: 3 international premieres: The Icebreaker (“Ледокол”) disaster blockbuster; Heritage of Love (“Герой”) starring Eurovision Song Contest Winner Dima Bilan (sold out); MoscowNever Sleeps (“Москва никогда не спит”) Ireland-Russia coproduction. 2 exhilarating full-length animation films for both kids and adults to enjoy: Sheep and Wolves (“Волки и овцы”) and Quakerz (“Крякнутые каникулы”). A documentary film debut by the well-known Russian rock-star/composer Ilya Lagutenko (Mumiy Troll) Vladivostok Vacation and the Great Russian Break (“SOS матросу!”); a selection of fascinating short films. Masterclasses by famous film directors and producers Alexey Uchitel, Valery Todorovsky and Elliot Grove, the founder of the renowned Raindance Film Festival. Q&As with attending film stars; an exhibition of Russian and British film posters; the Across Time and Culture party at Poliform Showroom featuring models in costumes from The Heritage of Love, Coproduction and Networking Day for film-makers. RFW opens 30th November with a red carpet premiere ceremony, followed by daily screenings at the Regents Street Cinema with auxiliary events at other venues, drawing to a close with the Golden Unicorn Awards Charity Gala to raise funds for Gift of Life.
